Big blow for PDP as House of Reps candidate, party leaders, thousands of supporters defect to APC

Prominent stalwarts belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo have joined a new party.

Thousands of PDP members, including the House of Representatives candidate, Olumuyiwa Adu, on Monday, May 22, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The leadership of the PDP headed by Umar Damagum as acting chairman has lost its strong members to the APC in Ondo state.

Also, the leader of the PDP in Akokoland, Bode Obanla, led decampees from the four local government areas of Akoko South-West, Akoko South-East, Akoko North-West, and Akoko North-East to the APC.

Switch allegiance, Obanla said APC remains the path to development, Daily Independent report confirmed.

Why PDP leaders decamped to the APC

Speaking on the development, Adu said he decided to dump the PDP with his followers following the leadership crisis in the party, The Nigerian Tribune reported.

The politicians declared further that the party had lost focus and vision with no direction.

This is as Governor Yahaya Bello of the state received a group of former members of the PDP from the Igalamela/Odolu local government area to the All Progressives Congress on Monday, May 22.

The defectors have pledged their support for the APC candidate in the election, Ododo Ahmed Usman, expressing their readiness to work hard and see the return of the ruling party in the state.
