Real Betis are preparing a €15m offer for Nigerian forward Christantus Uche as they step up efforts to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Betis consider the proposed fee significant within their financial structure but also attractive enough for Getafe, who are now reassessing their squad planning following developments around the player’s loan spell.
The report states that Getafe remain aware of Uche’s strong market value despite an inconsistent period in England, with his profile still highly regarded due to his age, physical attributes and experience in a major European league.
It adds that the €15m proposal from Betis could serve as the starting point for formal negotiations.
“Betis are prepared to offer around €15m, a figure considered significant for the club but also attractive to Getafe given their financial situation,” Fichajes stated.
Getafe are said to be open to discussions, although they do not want to undervalue the player. However, the club also recognise that a transfer of that size could help ease financial and sporting pressures ahead of the new season.
“The proposed €15m from Betis could become the starting point for serious negotiations,” the report added, while noting that Getafe would carefully consider any serious bid.
Uche is expected to return to Getafe after a loan spell at Crystal Palace failed to develop into a permanent move, leaving his parent club to reconsider their plans.
Earlier reports from Spain and England indicated that Palace were not fully convinced about activating the conditions required to sign the Nigerian permanently, meaning control of his future has now reverted to Getafe.
Betis have been tracking Uche for some time as part of their attacking rebuild, with club officials reportedly impressed by his physical strength, movement and previous impact in La Liga.
The Seville-based club reportedly view him as a forward capable of operating across multiple attacking roles rather than a traditional striker, with his ability to break defensive lines and create space seen as a key asset.
Uche’s situation remains delicate after sporting director Toni Muñoz confirmed that he will return following the failed activation of his loan clause.
“It is taken for granted because Uche did not meet the required target of appearances, and it is clear that he is returning,” Muñoz said.
