Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu, has said President Bola Tinubu's response to the attacks on civilians, especially the massacre in Benue State, is indicative of frustration.
More than a hundred people were killed in the Yelewata community in Benue State by suspected Fulani herdsmen a few days ago.
The incident followed recent killings in Plateau and Zamfara states, where hundreds of lives were lost and thousands displaced.
Reacting, Moghalu stated that the trend needs to come to an end or the government allows Nigerians to defend themselves.
He shared on X, "I have been reflecting on the recent killings in Nigeria’s Benue State. My heart goes out to the victims of continued terrorism in our country. When the state appears impotent to protect the lives of its citizens, what are we to think?
"This trend has gone on for too long. It must end, or we accept the rights of affected people to take up arms to defend themselves if @NigeriaGov can’t. President @officialABAT ‘s response is indicative of his own frustration. Gen. T.Y. Danjuma’s statements in recent years are being increasingly validated.
"There is a fundamental problem of governance in our country. There is a fundamental crisis in the Nigerian state. The facts speak loudly. Securing the lives of citizens is the first task of the government. There can be no excuses for not meeting that responsibility."
