The students of Bayero University Kano (BUK) have been told not to protest the death of a 200-level student who was crushed by a moving vehicle.

Malam Lamara Garba, the University's Secretary for Information and Publication, issued the warning in a statement on Sunday.

He claimed the deceased, Kamaluddeen Moshood of the accounting department, died on Saturday at the National Orthopedic Hospital Dala after suffering injuries in the accident.

Moshood was hit by a fast-moving vehicle outside the University on June 8, 2021, about 10:00 p.m., according to Garba.

The vice chancellor, according to the secretary, authorized the Dean of Students Affairs to visit the accident scene and take all required steps after receiving the report.

“The driver of the vehicle was captured, and the victim was brought to the hospital for immediate medical assistance under the supervision of the University Director of Health Services.

“Preliminary examinations found that Moshood suffered a significant leg injury and needed his leg amputated to preserve his life while at the hospital.

He died as he was trying to get his health back on track, he claimed.

“Because the university went to such lengths to save Moshood's life, any student(s) caught demonstrating would be dealt with harshly.

He exhorted "all serious-minded students to confront their studies and prepare for the next second semester exams, which will begin soon."

Garba expressed the University administration's sincere condolences to the deceased's family, associates, and the whole University community.

He added that the institution has asked the Federal Ministry of Works to build a pedestrian bridge at the new campus's main gate so that students can cross the freeway safely.
