The Bayelsa state election is set to hold tomorrow, November 11 with several candidates across the political parties including the incumbent governor are battling over the seat.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo have been alleged to have declared support for the state governor, Douye Diri, who is seeking re-election for a second term as Bayelsa state governor.

The speculations began after Obasanjo inaugurated a 10.75km second phase of the ongoing Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie senatorial road.

During the inauguration, the former president applauded ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, who started the project when he was the governor of Bayelsa state, as well as Senator Seriake Dickson for continuing the project.

According to Obasanjo, if you have a horse that is winning in a race, there is no need to change it, making reference to Governor Diri’s second term bid.

Govermor Diri took to his Facebook page to confirm that the former president has backed his second-term bid.

"You have acknowledged that we need to continue, and continue we will. We will continue to provide service to our people," he wrote.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has also unveiled his preferred candidate for the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa state.

In an article published on the Punch, Jonathan endorsed Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a second term because of the stability of the state.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Daniel Alabrah on Tuesday, November 7, said;

“I have been in touch with our governor and I believe he should be encouraged to do his eight years. He has been able to stabilise the state.

“Let us find a standard way of doing things. We cannot kill ourselves; we do not want a crisis. I thank you all for what you are doing. While we struggle for leadership, we must have a country.”
