The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man identified as Ahmed Saleh over allegations of impersonation, criminal trespass and attempted rape in Bauchi State.
According to reports, the suspect, said to be a resident of the Kobi area of Bauchi, was apprehended following a complaint that led police operatives to launch an investigation into the incident. Authorities allege that the suspect unlawfully gained access to a residence while pretending to be someone else before attempting to sexually assault a female victim.
Police sources said the suspect was arrested after officers responded to the complaint and commenced preliminary investigations. He is currently in custody while detectives continue gathering evidence related to the case.
The Bauchi State Police Command has not disclosed further details about the victim in line with procedures protecting the identity of alleged victims of sexual offences. Investigators are also examining the impersonation allegations and other related offences connected to the case.
The development comes as security agencies continue to urge residents to promptly report cases involving sexual violence, impersonation and other criminal activities to law enforcement authorities.
Police said the suspect will face prosecution if investigations establish sufficient evidence to support the allegations against him.
