Bauchi lawmaker murdered with wives, daughter abducted

Hon. Musa Mante, a lawmaker representing the Baraza Dass Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly was murdered in his residence, Dass Local Government Area by suspected gunmen.

He was shot on Thursday, August 13, 2020 with his two wives and a year old daughter also being abducted by the gunmen.

Confirming the incident yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakili, gave the names of the abducted wives as Rashida Musa Mante, 40; Rahina Musa Mante 35 and one-year-old daughter Fausar Musa Mante.

He added that four empty shells of live ammunition were recovered at the scene of the incident.

Wakili said the motive of the attack was yet to be ascertained, but the gunmen were suspected to be armed robbers.

He said the Dass Divisional Police Officer is leading a team of police personnel to the crime area begin immediate investigation in order to bring the gunmen to book.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, has described the death of Mantea as shocking and great loss to Bauchi State.

Suleiman stated this in a condolence message to the family of the deceased.

He condemned the attack and murder of the lawmaker and vowed to work with security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the evil act.

He described the deceased as God fearing, humble and a dependable ally who served and related with people selflessly and honourably.

He said: “As the member representing the good people of Dass, Hon. Mante dedicated his time and resources to ensure the well being of his constituents. He was always at the forefront of serving the interest of his people and dear state.

“He lived a simple and exemplary life worthy of emulation. The fact that he had lived in his village interacting and serving his people speaks volumes on how faithful and humble the late Hon. Musa Mante Baraza was.

“As Chairman House Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Mante diligently and effectively discharged his responsibility by being dedicated and committed to finding solutions to the problems affecting people across the state.

“He has contributed immensely in the lawmaking business and other functions of Bauchi State House of Assembly.

“He was very friendly and kind to all of us his colleagues and staff of the Assembly.

“Indeed, we will lose his elderly and statesmanly gestures, joviality and the jokes we always share during plenary, meetings and other engagements.”
