Bashir Ahmad condemns Ese Oruru's abductor's actions after backlash from Nigerians

Presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has reacted to the backlash from Nigerians after he promised to influence the judgment against Yinusa Dahiru, the abductor of Ese Oruru.

The Federal High Court in Bayelsa sentenced Yinusa Dahiru to 26 years in prison for abducting Ese Oruru and forcefully marrying her in Kano.

Shortly after the judgment was delivered, a man identified as Hamed Yusuf Saleh pleaded with Bashir Ahmad to do something about it.

He wrote on Twitter, “Please Bashir do something about Yunusa Yellow for Allah’s sake, he is wrongly accused and sentenced, the whole matter is manipulated, we need to appeal for him.”

Bashir Ahmad responded, “My brother, I do not have the power to do anything against the judgment of the court, but I will try to contact those whom I think are capable.”

His response was met with heavy criticism from Nigerians who questioned if he was in support of the convict's actions.

In reaction, he tweeted: "I commented on the Yunusa Yellow saga earlier, without knowing and understanding the details of the case. Eloping or rather, kidnapping a minor and forcing her to marry you shouldn’t be taken lightly. A condemnable act!"
