Niger Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello has stated the bandits terrorising the State are not Fulanis.

He said they are hired to cause problems for the state.

The Governor also informed 20 vigilantes were killed in the Magama local government area of Niger state.

According to him, it is not the habit of the true Fulanis to indulge in banditry and kidnapping.

He argued the bandits are more organised than the Fulanis.

The Governor spoke when he met with the parents of the 136 kidnapped students of the Islammiya school and other stakeholders at the Palace of the Emir of Kagara, Alhaji Ahmed Garba Gunna.

He commiserated with them over the abduction of their children.

“Most of these bandits are from outside the country, they are hired to cause problems for us. It is not the habit of the true Fulani to indulge in this kind of act.

“These bandits are well organized and coordinated. The abductors are not honest, they are not honourable,” he stressed.

Bello further declared the government is taking steps to apprehend everyone involved in banditry activities in the state.

According to him: “We cannot fold our arms anymore. We are set to take decisive and necessary steps to apprehend those involved, both the informants and the bandits.

“Even though we have ruled out payment of ransom, it is time for the government to take decisive measures towards ending the bandits activities that are forcefully changing the lives of the people especially in the rural areas.”

The Governor also said the government is taking decisive measures in ensuring the safe return of the children.

To this end, the government had deployed over 1000 combined security agencies to search for the abducted children.

The combined security agencies comprised of the Military, Police, Civil Defense, and Vigilante Corps.

The Governor said that all logistics will be provided for the combined security agencies to enable them to carry out their job effectively.
