Suspected bandits launched an attack on the Zurak community in Wase local government area of Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of at least five residents and one soldier.
The assault took place around 3:00 pm on Monday, and reports suggest that three soldiers remain missing following a gunfight with the assailants.
Prior to this, the bandits had set fire to houses in Sabon Gari community, looted shops, and stolen foodstuffs and valuables. Shapi’i Sambo, a youth leader in Wase, verified the attacks and noted that the fallen soldier's body has been transported to Jos.
Jibrin Isa, a resident of Zak community, described the scene as devastating, explaining that Zurak is now deserted as locals have fled to nearby villages out of fear of further violence.
This incident is part of a broader escalation of banditry and kidnapping in Wase LGA, including the abduction of 28 travelers on December 21, 2025. Community leaders are urging authorities to take swift action to restore peace and order.
