As children prepare to return to school after a long holiday, former Senator Shehu Sani has called for greater awareness about fake drinks.

According to him, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and beverage manufacturers need to step up their efforts to combat fake products and protect children's health.

This, he said, would prevent children from buying such products mostly produced in backyards by unscrupulous elements.

He shared on X, "As Children return to school, beware of those fake confectioneries, fake Sugary Drinks, fake dairies and fake canned foods illegally produced in the backyards of those unscrupulous elements. Ingesting those fake edibles can deform the health of your Children for the rest of their lives. Protect the health of those little saints from this dangerous World that is so different from the one we were born into.NAFDAC and the Manufacturers of Ribena, Lucozade, Capri-Sun, Hollandia Milk, Golden Morn, Chi, Cowbell, Dano, and others should please step up awareness campaigns."

Reacting, an X user, @Colonel_Blade, said, "Your party and president appointed the old woman in charge of NAFDAC, allowing these poisons to harm children, unchecked. You should all be ashamed of yourselves for the incompetence you ignore. If it's to mock Trump a million miles away, you're the expert. But now, you're dumb."

@YinyinolaS said, "NAFDAC has failed Nigerians, but their DG is there laughing and saying someone wants her to resign so that they can assume her post."

@Engr_imran_mk said, "This is a very important warning. Parents, schools and regulators must remain vigilant to protect our children from dangerous counterfeit foods and drinks. NAFDAC and manufacturers should intensify public awareness and enforcement."

@Alexximons said, "Ibo-Emeka-Manda and Ibo-Amaka-Manda Kwenu! Come get your sub, Ndi Criminals."
