Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun, the first federal capital territory (FCT) minister, has reportedly died.

According to The Punch, the business mogul died on Saturday, July 1, at 96.

Oluremi Ajose-Adeogun confirmed the death of the octogenarian on behalf of the family in a statement on Monday, July 3.

The statement partly reads: “The family of Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun has announced the passing away to the eternal glory of their patriarch, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun, FCIS, CON, JP."

According to the statement, the late elder statesman was appointed by the military government of General Murtala Mohammed. He was the brain behind Abuja's Master Plan when he was in office as the FCT Minister.

Before he was appointed minister of the FCT, Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun earlier served as a two-term federal commissioner for Cooperatives and Supply meritoriously in August 1975.

Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun attended the CMS Grammar School in Lagos between 1940 and 1946 before he moved to the School of Oriental and African Studies at London University.

He also attended the University College London, where he obtained the Cambridge School Certificate with exemption from London Matriculation; Inter LL.B. (London).
