BREAKING: Missing ex-ASUU president has been found, details emerge

Professor Dipo Fasina, the former president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), popularly referred to as "Professor Jingo", has been found in Turkey.

Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, the current president of ASUU, confirmed that the academic and activist was reported to be missing on Saturday, July 1, Daily Trust reported.

The academic was reported to be on his way to Algeria on the invitation of the government of the North African country when he was reported to have missed his connecting flight from Istanbul in Turkey.

NIDCOM said: “The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in Turkey, has successfully located Prof Fasina, who went missing for a few days at Istanbul Airport while connecting on a flight back home.”

“Mr Fasina, 76, was travelling to Algeria when he was said to have missed his connecting flight from Istanbul, Turkey.

“A big thanks to the Nigerian Ambassador to Turkey who immediately sent officials to the Airport to physically locate him in the very busy and huge Istanbul Airport.”

He was reported to have joined the service in 1979 when he returned from the University of California in Los Angeles, where he earned his PhD.

Fasina is the chaiperson of the Joint Action Front (JAF), a coalition of the civil society organisations and the labour movement who are known for pro-people policies in Nigeria, an he is a trustee of ASUU.

Legit.ng earlier reported former ASUU national president, Dipo Fasina, has been declared missing by the current national president of the union, Emmanuel Osodeke.

The 76-year-old professor was said to be travelling to Algeria following an invitation by the country's government.

He was said to have missed his way while trying to connect with his flight from Istanbul in Turkey.
