Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed reports (not by MyNigeria) that he gifted a Toyota SUV to Lt. Ahmed Yerima, the naval officer who engaged in a heated exchange with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
MyNigeria reported that while Wike was trying to inspect a disputed land in Abuja, Yerima refused him access because he was following an order from above.
The action of the young officer drew mixed reactions, including praise and condemnation, from Nigerians far and wide.
Shortly after a video from the incident went viral, a report surfaced that Atiku rewarded the officer for his bravery by gifting him a SUV.
This has been debunked by Atiku's media aide, Paul Ibe, who described the report as fabricated and worth disregarding.
He said on X, "His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, Vice President of Nigeria (1999-2007), did not gift Lt. Ahmed Yerima — or any other individual — a brand new Toyota SUV, contrary to the false reports currently circulating on social media.
"The story is entirely fabricated and should be completely disregarded by the public."
