Reno Omokri, a former presidential spokesman claims his “Buy Nigerian campaign” has affected telecommunication giant, MTN Nigeria.

Omokri made this known in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, April 25.

He noted his campaign has dealt a blow to MTN Nigeria since it started, urging his followers to make inquiries on the number of subscribers they have lost.

Early into the Tinubu-led administration, Omokri started an initiative geared towards encouraging Nigerians to patronize locally made goods or services.

"If you think #GrowNairaBuyNaija is not working, ask MTN Nigeria Ltd how many subscribers they lost since I started this initiative. And as for those Emergency Lovers of Nigeria celebrating the slight depreciation of the Naira to ₦1301 to $1, enjoy your jollification. Patriotic Nigerians will do our best to disappoint you and Arise TV as we continue buying made-in-Nigeria," he wrote.

In a February interview on Channels TV, Omokri said he was disappointed that the “Buy Nigerian campaign” was not evident in the President Bola Tinubu administration.

He said, “I want to see a more rigorous ‘Buy Nigerian campaign. I’m a bit disappointed that it’s not evident in the Bola Tinubu-led administration.

“We need to push the ‘Buy Nigerian’ campaign at the governmental level too. We need to promote products made in Nigeria. Also, tell people that if there’s a made-in-Nigeria alternative for the foreign goods you buy, buy the Nigerian alternative.

“There’s Dangote; call with Glo; drive Innoson; and fly Air Peace. We cannot have a situation where 133 million Nigerians are spending $20 million on MTN and others. It’s going to South Africa and India. It’s putting downward pressure on the naira,” he said.

The former presidential aide, however, said the political reforms he was looking forward to were being implemented.
