Singer and music executive, YoungOG, formerly known as Asha Gangali, has officially unveiled his new musical identity with the release of his latest single, titled, Ebube.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, YoungOG revealed reasons behind his new brand name and the inspiration behind the new single.
He said, “My musical journey as an afrobeats artiste and decade-long activism in the Nigerian music copyright segment contributed to my transition into this new brand, which is an embodiment of the afrobeats culture.
“I noticed that I’ve always been years ahead of any afrobeats dispensation. I am not trying to brag, but it’s the reality. That is why my sound is always fresh and dope. You’ll know and appreciate this when you listen to my new single and other forthcoming records.”
On why he changed his name, he added, “Rebranding from Asha Gangali to YoungOG was necessary due to changes in the demographics that consume the music and drive the culture. My new sound is eclectic and I’m excited about this new dispensation. I had actually metamorphosed from Gangali to YoungOG since 2023 but the process of rebranding is very tedious, both creatively and administratively.”
YoungOG also stated that he had not abandoned his prominent role in the Nigerian Music Copyright space, having served as National Treasurer of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria.
