Before the Super Eagles encounter against the Bafana Bafana, a story circulated online claiming Ghana legend had alleged that Victor Osimhen faked the injury to join Galatasaray ahead of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League.

According to Dailysports.net, the former Sunderland Star said club owners would have told him to pretend the injury was serious on the pitch to find an escape route back to Turkey.

He said:

"I know all these tricks. Someone must have told Osimhen: Look, we spent a lot of money on you.

"The UEFA Champions League is coming up, and we are not thrilled about you flying to Africa for the World Cup qualifiers.

"But go, play a little, lie down on the pitch, and pretend it is serious. The next day, you'll already be back in Turkey.

It is just to avoid media noise".
