Dr. Reuben Abati has cautioned former Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo over a statement where he mentioned he was on the same pedestal as the Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara.

Abati, a lawyer and now co-host of Arise TVs Morning Show in his reaction said Mr. Asari should know that he isn't equal to the governor.

Citing sector 308 of the Nigerian Constitution, Dr Abati reminded Mr. Asari that the governor enjoys immunity while in office but he (Asari) doesn't.

"Asari calls himself Dr Asari and we don't know where he got his PhD from. All sorts of people call themselves Dr," Dr Abati said.

"But he was quoting the Constitution and he was quoting it wrongly. Dr Asari as he calls himself is not equal to the governor of Rivers State. For example, the governor of Rivers State has immunity under sector 308 of the constitution and the governor of the state."

"Does Dr. Asari as he calls himself has immunity under the same constitution that is one slight difference I think we should point out to educate people who might be speaking out of ignorance," he noted.

Meanwhile, Asari Dokubo has disagreed with the Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara on his remarks that Rivers is a Christian state.

In a tweet immediately after his inauguration on May 29, 2023, the governor stated that the state would stay strong in its Christian values.

However, responding on Facebook Live, Dokubo lamented that Fubara started his term on the wrong footing.

He stressed that such a comment goes against the principles of inclusivity and religious freedom.

Dokubo maintained that the governor lacked the authority to unilaterally declare the state a Christian one.

“I am using this medium to advise the governor, Sim Fubara, to better retract the statement. “I want him to know that Rivers State is not and will never be a Christian state. With such a statement, I can say that the governor is starting on the wrong footing,” Dokubo said.
