Are you mad? - Veteran Ghanaian Journalist berates ECOWAS

Veteran Ghanaian journalist, Kwesi Pratt has taken a swipe at the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS) Heads of State to implore military intervention in Niger Republic.

Recall that ECOWAS led by President Bola Tinubu announced a plan to send West African soldiers to war against Niger in an attempt to reinstate ousted President Mohammed Bazuom.

Reacting to the plan to wage war on Niger, Pratt slammed ECOWAS for over their failure to deal with Boko Haram but chose to deploy soldiers to fight to reinstate a democratically elected President that was removed by coup.

As a result of their failure to curtail Boko Haram, Pratt questioned their sense of reasoning to resort to such drastic approach in Niger.

“You cannot fight Boko Haram. You’ve allowed your citizens to be kidnapped, to be killed, to be molested. Your villages have been ransacked by Boko Haram.

You can’t deal with Boko Haram you’re going to move your soldiers to Niger to go and fight to restore the President of Niger? Are you crazy? You ran away from Boko Haram. You hold a meeting in Abuja to prepare to go to wage war on Niger? What are you taking the people of Nigeria for? Are you mad? Are you crazy?” he quizzed.

Pratt further said, “…I believe very strongly that West African soldiers are human beings. They are sensible. They know their interests and the interests of their countries. And that no West African soldier is ready to go and die a foolish death in Niger.”

His comment comes following the West African leaders meeting held in Accra Ghana to discuss the deployment of troops to Niger.
