The DG of Peter Obi/Yusuf Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation, Akin Osuntokun, has narrated the drama that occurred at the appeal court in Abuja on Wednesday involving Lamidi Apapa, the factional leader of the Labour Party.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, May 17, Osunokun described Apapa as a person who is obsessed with recognition.

On Wednesday, May 17, prior to the election petition hearing, Lamidi Apapa and his faction approached Osuntokun, demanded to seat where he was siting.

However, Osuntokun refused saying he does not know him. This escalated with the two factions clashing at the court.

Sharing his own side of what happened, Osuntokun said;

“The incident started from me. I was sitting, and the protocol lady always reserve four seats for me and Peter Obi, party chairman, Julius Abure and anyone else. I think the man is obsessed with recognition, because when we were there, that was the first question he asked, he led his gang of people to come to me that he wants to seat where I am sitting. I said I don’t know you, he said don’t you know me? I said who are you? He said, you know me. I said, well I know you as a nuisance. Its an aspect of criminalization of politics in Nigeria today. It has several manifestations.

You ask this man, what does he do for a living or the people around him? This Mr Apapa, where will I know him? He talked about Peter Obi not knowing him, so if you give a prayer talk somewhere I must remember you? He is so insignificant. I don’t blame them anyway. The last time I heard from them, they were accusing Peter Obi of embezzling campaign money and that they were going to withdraw the case from the Supreme Court. That is their interest of the Labour Party. They hit the jackpot; people don’t have the means of supporting their livelihood in a comfortable way. They have become useful to parties who are interested in destablising Labour Party.”

However, Lamidi Apapa, has said he intends to go to the appeal court on Friday, May 19, despite alleged threats made at him.

Videos emerged on Wednesday of the clashes that occurred in the court. However, another incident occurred outside the court as supporters booed and called Lamidi a thief, as he made his way to his car.

He was immediately whisked away by some police operatives from the large crowd.

These drama comes as the Labour Party is faced with leadership crisis.
