The Ogun state command has arrested an angry customer who attempted to set fire to a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) building located in the Oke-Ilewo Area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Tuesday, October 24.

The aggrieved customer identified as Sodirudeen Rufai had approached the bank following the fraudulent withdrawal of N500k from his account.

Report indicates that when Rufai reported the deduction, the Area Commander, Metro, Abeokuta, allegedly told him to let the bank follow its procedures in determining what caused the deduction.

However, when the bank informed him that he had been cheated, and all move to get the bank to rectify the fraudulent withdrawal proved futile, the frustrated customer returned to the bank with petrol.

He immediately began pouring it on himself and the bank hall causing fear and panic among other customers who fled the bank.

The bank security personnel was said to have pulled Rufai to the ground before he could light himself and the bank on fire.

He was then taken to the Ibara Police Division by the bank’s Chief Security Officer, Godwin James.

Rufai on his part said he poured the petrol in order to get the attention of the authorities and alert them of what the bank did to his money.

Commenting on the incident that occurred in Ogun state, the state police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Wednesday, said Rufai would be charged with attempted suicide and murder.

Odutola said:

He was fighting a noble cause in an ignoble way. He has a right to make a complaint that his money is missing. But the way he went about it was wrong. We are going to hold him for an attempt to commit suicide with murder because if he had succeeded, he would have killed himself and every other person in the bank.
