Anger as Ganiyu Johnson says doctors should be banned from traveling outside for greener pastures

An All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker from Lagos, Ganiyu Johnson, has stated that there is a rampant decline of Nigerian doctors in the country.

The lawmaker claims that the nation used to have roughly 24,000 medical practitioners, but that number is now less than 10,000, which is quite alarming.

This, according to Ganiyu, is a result of some medical professionals turning to international travel in order to find better job opportunities.

He continued by saying that because the government had invested a sizable number of money and resources in training these doctors, it would be detrimental to the nation if they chose to leave the country for industrialized nations in search of economic stability.

In an effort to stop doctors from leaving the country in search of better opportunities, Ganiyu argued that a law should exist to forbid them from doing so.

The lawmaker's comment upset social media users who questioned why politicians could travel abroad for better medical care but would want to prevent doctors from leaving the country in search of better opportunities.

iam_ojay_igwe: "Nigeria doctors are one of the most drilled set of medical professionals. It takes a lot to become a doctor in Nigeria yet they are the least appreciated! How many doctors in Nigeria actually live like they spent that amount of years becoming professionals? No government support, nothing! In fact you make them work under worst conditions and then when they seek to go to where they are appreciated you try to stop them! Wickedness! Even home care workers in Europe and America earn far better than doctors in Nigeria, you can imagine. This APC guys are a menace! I’ve never seen"

el_surprises: "Very stup*d law, they are talking like education is free. Who are you to tell people how to live their lives??? This is so annoying"

The health sector is a total mess. If everything is in order, a lot of them will stay back and only go on holidays abroad. Nigerians deserve selfless leaders. May God God help this Country"
