The Anambra State Police Command has said residents have started assisting operatives in their effort to end the sit-at-home in the state.
In a statement, the command said the initial efforts led to the corrective measures recently taken by the Anambra State Government to enhance safety and security in the state, particularly efforts to discourage the illegal Sit-at-Home and the closure of markets on Mondays.
The command noted that the first stage of addressing the security challenges occurred when criminal elements launched attacks on security operatives and destroyed government facilities in an attempt to instil fear in the residents of Anambra State. It said despite these attacks and the prevailing conspiracy of silence, in which residents initially feared volunteering information, the security forces remained resolute and demonstrated courage and professionalism.
"A positive shift in public attitude marked the second stage, as residents gradually became bolder and began to assist the Police and other security agencies by providing useful information to aid operations.
"In the third stage, residents went beyond volunteering information and showed a stronger commitment by actively supporting the Police in identifying and apprehending criminal elements within their communities through the launch of Operation Udo ga achi," the command said.
It said currently, the Anambra State Government, in collaboration with Ndi Anambra, has resolved to correct harmful practices arising from security concerns, including the illegal Sit-at-Home order and closure of markets on Mondays.
"The Anambra State Police Command, on behalf of all security agencies in the State, assures the public of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and security across the state," the command said.
