Afrobeats star Davido has appealed to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma to use his influence to ensure that the forthcoming Osun State governorship election is peaceful and reflects the will of the people.

Speaking at a press conference, the singer said he had heard rumours suggesting there could be attempts to interfere in the August 15 poll but stressed that he was not presenting the claims as facts.

His appeal comes after the APC appointed Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors' Forum, to lead its National Campaign Council for the election.

"I say this with respect. I have heard rumours suggesting that there are moves to interfere in the Osun State election or use the state as a political battleground to prove a point. I do not present these claims as facts, but I appeal to you to use your influence to promote peace and allow the people of Osun to choose their candidates," Davido said.

The singer, whose uncle Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking re-election, noted that his appeal was also personal because his wife, Chioma, is from Imo State.

"And I have a deep connection to Imo State. My wife, Chioma, is from the state, which makes this appeal more sincere," he stated.

Davido urged political stakeholders to allow democracy to prevail, insisting that the lives and future of the people should never be sacrificed for political ambition.

"Let's allow democracy take its course and let the people decide. Whatever the outcome is, please do not allow political ambition to put the lives and future of us as people at risk."

He added: "Let the people come out freely, peacefully to vote for the candidate of their choice. If they choose you, let the victory be through their votes. If they choose someone else, let their decision be respected. Politics is temporary, but Osun will be here forever."
