Alleged LG fund diversion – Ogun Assembly summons AG, JAAC members

Ogun Assembly Ogun Assembly

The Ogun House of Assembly has waded into the controversy surrounding local government funds management in the state.

The Chairman of Ijebu-East, Wale Adedayo had accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of diverting federal allocations meant for the 20 local governments since he came on board.

Reacting, Gov Abiodun dismissed the allegations, saying he had been augmenting whatever the local governments received from the federation account to allow them meet up their obligations.

On Thursday, the Ogun Assembly summoned the State Accountant General and all members of the Joint Account Allocations Committee to appear before it over local government funds expenditure.

The Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, issued the invite during plenary in Abeokuta today, explaining that the reason for the invite was to get thorough explanation on what has been happening at the local governments, so that Ogun people could be fully briefed.

The Speaker said the meeting would afford the Assembly the opportunity to have well informed HCC and thereafter take necessary action.

“We have the power to investigate what’s happening in our state and then do the needful,” Oluomo stated.

He appealed to those concerned to maintain law, peace and order, particularly in Ijebu East local government where I heard that protests are ongoing. Everyone should calm down and allow us to do our job.”

A statement from the Assembly’s media quoted Oluomo as declaring, “I hereby invite the Accountant-General of the State and all members of the Joint Account Allocations Committee to appear before the house on Friday by 1pm.”
