Alleged Christian genocide is a plan against Shariah in Nigeria - Sheikh Gumi

Controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has said the cries of Christian genocide in Nigeria are a plan against Shariah law in Nigeria.

He said on Facebook, "After the fog has cleared. The alleged 'Christian genocide' in Nigeria is all about a well-drawn-out plan to attack the Shariah Law and Islamophobia."

Recently, Sheikh Gumi spoke out against U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statements about Nigeria.

Trump had labelled Nigeria a 'Country of Particular Concern' due to reports of Christian persecution, and even threatened military intervention to address the allegations.

Gumi criticised these remarks, suggesting they reveal the unpatriotic and hateful sentiments of some Nigerians. While the report sparked mixed reactions—some Nigerians supported it, others argued that security challenges in Nigeria are not religiously targeted—Gumi dismissed the claims entirely.

He took to Facebook to call on Trump to retract his statements, asserting that Trump's comments have only exposed those in the country who harbour ill intentions against Nigeria.

He wrote, “Trump’s lies about ‘Christian genocide’ in Nigeria have exposed unpatriotic, hateful citizens who wish no good for the nation. We can’t be deceived anymore”.
