Alleged Christian Genocide: PFN has said challenges not religiously motivated - Bwala

Presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala has met with the national leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) concerning claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria.

MyNigeria reported that U.S. lawmakers, including Senator Ted Cruz, Representative Riley Moore, and Representative Nancy Mace, are backing the claims, as first made by TV show host Bill Maher.

According to Maher, since 2009, about 100,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria, a situation he described as an attack on faith.

However, the Presidency has on multiple occasions dismissed the claims, saying that although terrorism exists, it is not religiously motivated.

According to Bwala, the same position was taken by PFN leaders at the meeting he had with them.

He shared on X, "Today, on the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I met with the national leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Abuja for a constructive dialogue on security, media narratives, and national unity. I deeply appreciate their openness, patriotism, and willingness to engage on issues that shape our collective peace and progress.

"We discussed verified facts on Nigeria’s security situation and addressed misleading Western reports suggesting faith-based killings. Both sides agreed that while challenges exist, they are not religiously motivated.

"Together, we share a common resolve to strengthen trust, promote truth, and build a safer Nigeria."
