Aliko Dangote: Like great grandfather, like great grandson

Aliko Dangote is a household name today in Nigeria and by estimation, Dangote is the richest Nigerian alive and one of the richest men alive in the world today.

Dangote is into everything in Nigeria from manufacturing to distribution and trading to the extent that he is today seen as a monopoly.

Some business persons love him for this while love to hate him for cornering every business opportunities.

He just commissioned the Dangote refinery, the largest in Africa.

Aliko Dangote hails from a family known for commerce in Kano.
Kano is the commercial city known far and beyond and a hub for the trans Saharan trade.

Dangote's family tree include Alhassan Dantata, his great grandfather was West Africa's richest man in the 1940s.

Dantata is the brain behind the world fanous Kano Groundnut pyramids.
He was also a trader who dealt in kolanuts.

At the peak of the groundnut pyramids pyramid, it was said that each bag contained 15,000 bags filled with grounduts.

He was a supplier to British trading companies.

When Alhassan Dantata opened an account with British Bank of West Africa, now First Bank in 1929, it was reported that he did so with 20 camel-loads of silver coins in Kano.

In recent Nigerian history, Dantata's great grandson, Aliko Dangote is now the richest person in Africa breaking the record of his great grandfather, Alhassan Dantata.

Dangote started his business empire by selling commodities such as sugar, salt, and flour to great investments which led to his affluence.

Remember what Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said on Monday, may 22, 2023 that when Dangote came to Lagos in 1978, he came with nothing and now he has made a name for himself.

Today, Aliko Dangote is the the richest person in Africa, and also the world's richest black person.
