In a deeply emotional and historic act of transnational solidarity, Alhaja Sherifaah Mahama Dundu, a respected humanitarian, together with Hon. Chief Saeed Owolabi, led a powerful delegation on behalf of the Yoruba Community in Ghana to visit the family of late Nigerian boxer, Gabriel Oluwasegun “Success” Olanrewaju, at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Gym, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The visit took place at 10:00am on behalf of the Yoruba community as a tribute to a promising athlete whose life was tragically cut short on March 29, 2025, after collapsing during a match at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra. He was later pronounced dead at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
During the solemn visit, the bereaved family was presented with a ₦500,000.00 cash donation from the Yoruba Community Ghana. In a significant show of brotherhood and compassion, Alhaja Sherifaah Mahama Dundu also presented an additional ₦500,000.00 donation, in her personal capacity and on behalf of her brother, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, the current President of the Republic of Ghana.
The event was streamed LIVE on Facebook, enabling members of the Yoruba and Ghanaian communities worldwide to partake in the moving tribute and demonstrate solidarity with the family.
The ₦1,000,000.00 total support is more than a donation; it is a symbol of African unity, Yoruba brotherhood, and the moral responsibility we hold for one another across borders.
This act of generosity speaks volumes — that even in the face of tragedy, the Yoruba spirit, supported by visionary leaders like President Mahama and his sister, remains resilient, compassionate, and united.
The Yoruba Community Ghana expresses profound appreciation to all who joined the live stream and calls on everyone to keep the Olanrewaju family in prayers.
May the soul of Gabriel Oluwasegun “Success” Olanrewaju rest in perfect peace.
