Former Real Madrid defender David Alaba is set to join Maduka Okoye at Udinese as a free agent.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Udinese have begun talks with the veteran defender over a possible move for the 34-year-old.

Alaba became a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Real Madrid at the end of last season.

The former Bayern Munich star spent five seasons at the Santiago Bernabéu, winning two La Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League titles.

The Austrian defender has struggled to stay fit during his spell with Los Blancos, resulting in the club’s decision not to extend his stay at the club.

The defender of Nigerian descent captained Austria at the 2026 FIFA World Cup but failed to secure a deal in the summer.

Alaba has, however, been linked with a move to Europe, the MLS and Mexico, including interest from clubs in Serie A, the Bundesliga and Liga MX since leaving Madrid.
