Saboteurs threatening to destabilise petroleum sector – Akpabio
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed worry over the recent tension between the Nigerian government and Dangote Refinery.
He stated that the ongoing economic sabotage has undermined investor confidence in the petroleum sector.
Akpabio hinted at plans by the Senate to identify and hold those accountable for these criminal acts.
He made this announcement on Monday, July 22, 2024, during the inauguration of the Senate ad-hoc committee to investigate alleged sabotage in the sector.
Speaking at the committee’s launch, Akpabio emphasised that this is not just an investigation but a rescue mission for the nation’s future.
He added that it is a matter of national security and sovereignty and, if left unchecked, could cripple the economy for generations to come.
Senator Akpabio also urged members of the committee and the Senate to collaborate with relevant agencies, industry experts, and stakeholders to expose the root causes of economic sabotage.
