The Senate President Godwill Akpabio has been called out for his utterances at the burial ceremony of Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, his wife and son at the Redeemed Christian Church of God on Saturday, March 9, 2024.

Exactly a month ago, there were reports that Herbert Wigwe and his family had died in a helicopter crash in America.

Speaking during the burial of Wigwe, Akpabio when called to make a tribute, began by lamenting over the ovation which was accorded him as compared to that of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate.

He said;

“I know that since I wasn’t a presidential candidate, the ovation that the Redeem Church will give to me will not be as much as my brother who was a presidential candidate.”

Immediately, a section of the crowd began to chant Obi as the camera captured Peter Obi, Alex Otti and others smiling at Akpabio’s statement.

In another part of his tribute, Akpabio while on the pulpit, decided to reply to the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s comment.

Fubara had said; “I have this question that is going through my mind? What is life all about? And this has to do with our political class. What is all this struggle all about? You want to kill, you want to bury, what is it all about? This is a man; he is not a politician. He made his money through us, our investments. He had the world in his palm financially. He controlled even the political classes but today, with all the power financially he couldn’t control life. Is it not enough to ask ourselves, why are we struggling? Why are we not making an impact in the life of our people? Please political classes, let's go home with that question. Let’s reflect on it in our minds and in what we do.”

Responding to Fubara’s comment, Akpabio in his speech said;

“Your Excellency Governor Fubara, if there is nothing in the struggle don’t struggle.”

He went on to eulogise Wigwe, describing him as an “icon, a South/South mentor, a man of excellence with his family, a great friend of the people and a man who smiles with compassion”.

Meanwhile, Akpabio’s tribute seems not to have gone down with many who slammed him for his utterances.

kala_like_this: Apkabio has to be the most unintelligent senate president Nigeria has ever produced

stelzjonez: The senate president is not emotionally intelligent!

o_b_e_l_e_m: He even responded to governor Sim’s comment that was not in any way directed to him. Illiterate!

akimcares: Dullest senate president Nigeria ever produced

imma_ojeh: This is so uncalled for

iam_igbinedionsammy: Akpabio should have never been a senator not to talk of senate president. I wonder what he's on sometimes. Everything about him is politics and dirty politics

iam_bmodel: He is fast becoming the worst senate president I have seen in this country. So petty and takes everything as joke. I thought He would do well with the way He governed Akwa Ibom.
