Akara: Women in my village were excited when I empowered them with N10,000 - Peter Obi

A video has surfaced showing the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, revealing how excited some women were when he offered to empower them with N10,000 each.

The video surfaced after his supporters, popularly known as Obidients, lashed out at First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for proposing to empower women with N50,000 each to start small-scale businesses like frying Akara and roasting corn.

According to Obidients, such should not come from the government because the businesses in question cannot generate enough profit to enable the women to enrol their children in school.

However, Obi, who once governed Anambra State, did something similar, as I heard from him.

He said, "In a market square in my village, I gathered ten women. After speaking to them, I told them I was going to give each of them ₦10,000. The reaction was incredible; they couldn't believe it. They told me that the total value of all the goods they were selling was only about ₦6,000 to ₦7,000. So by giving each of them ₦10,000, I had more than doubled the value of their entire stock."
