Ajibade urges fans to pray for Taiwo Awoniyi in coma

Super Falcons star, Rasheedat Ajibade, has urged fans to pray for Super Eagles player, Taiwo Awoniyi, who has been placed in an induced coma to aid his recovery following urgent abdominal surgery.

Awoniyi, who plays for Nottingham Forest, was rushed to the hospital for surgery on Monday after sustaining a serious injury during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Leicester in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old had collided with a post while attempting to score in the closing stages of the match against Leicester.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest have confirmed in a statement that Awoniyi was “recovering well” following the incident.

“The club can confirm that Taiwo Awoniyi has had urgent surgery following the abdominal injury sustained during Sunday’s match against Leicester City. Everyone at Nottingham Forest sends their best wishes to Taiwo. We will provide further updates when appropriate,” the statement read.

However, compatriot Ajibade called for prayers for the striker as he battles a difficult moment.

She shared on X, "Our hearts are heavy as we hold Taiwo Awoniyi in our prayers. Just days ago, he shared his light and strength with us on the Rash 4 Christ podcast. Now, as he fights in this difficult moment, we stand with him and his family in faith and hope.

"God is with you, Taiwo. You’re not alone. Please say a prayer for Taiwo Awoniyi and his family."
