Nigerians are reacting angrily to the emergence of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State as the Ebonyi South All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial candidate in a rescheduled senatorial primary election held in the zone.

Umahi who was a presidential aspirant for his party defeated four other aspirants to clinch the party ticket in the south zone of the state on Sunday, July 31, 2022.

The governor defeated his closest rival after polling 250 votes to Chief Austin Umahi who scored 10 votes to come second in the primary election.

The other contestants were Mrs Ann Ago-Eze who scored zero votes, Mrs Nwakaego Chukwu who scored 5 votes and Mrs Ibiam Margaret scored 3 votes.

His victory is, however, set to be challenged after Ann Agom-Eze who was the INEC recognized candidate heads to court to challenge the result, sources disclosed.

Announcing the results of the election which took place at the Afikpo North Local Government council Headquarters, the Chairman of the electoral panel, Prof. Adebayo Kehinde declared the Ebonyi State Governor winner of the election.

“I Prof. Kayinde by the powers bestowed on me by the National Working Committee of the Party, I declare as followed, the total number of voters, 285, accredited votes, 270 votes, votes cast, 275, number of valid votes 268 while invalid votes is 7 votes”.
