Former presidential candidate Peter Obi, on Wednesday, accompanied former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to pay condolences to the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

A video on social media showed the moment Obi consoled Buhari's daughters over the death of the former President, who died at the age of 82 in London on Sunday.

His visit followed a heavy backlash from Nigerians who wondered why he snubbed the burial ceremony held on Tuesday.

Present during the funeral were President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, among others.

However, Obi was absent, forcing a reaction from former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, who said:

"Last week, he found time to serve food at parties. Today, he was too busy to attend the funeral of one of Arewa's greatest sons. Maybe he was serving food somewhere!

"This was a man who, only a few weeks ago, was insulting President Tinubu for his choice of outfit when he paid a condolence visit to Yelewata, yet he did not go to Benue.

"The message is loud and clear!"
