Nollywood actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, has explained why there are a number of coups in Africa.

This comes after the Gabonese President, Ali Bongo, was ousted by the military on Wednesday, August 30.

Speaking via his Instagram account on Thursday, August 31, the former spokesperson of Labour Party, said: β€œThe problem with African democracy is sit tight leaders and rigging of elections. If AU and ECOWAS want an end to coups in Africa, they should end the era of sit tight leaders and rigging of elections now, as all of them are different forms of unconstitutional takeover of power.”

The call by the Nollywood celebrity turned lawyer and politician is coming barely 48 hours after a military coup toppled long term Gabonese president, Ali Bongo.
