Former Nigeria striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has lauded Ademola Lookman’s recent move to Atlético de Madrid.
The 28-year-old completed his move from Italian club Atalanta to the Spanish giants this week in a deal worth €40 million, including add-ons.
After three-and-a-half seasons in Bergamo, the former African Footballer of the Year finally parted ways with the club following a failed attempt to join Inter Milan last summer.
Speaking on Lookman’s transfer, Aiyegbeni stated that the Super Eagles star deserves to play for a top club.
“I was convinced he was going to leave Atalanta this winter. Seeing him sign for a big club like Atlético de Madrid is a great source of pride,” Yakubu told Africa Foot.
“Ademola deserves to wear the colours of a top club like Atlético de Madrid. He will bring many positive things to them.”
Lookman is set to make his debut for Diego Simeone’s side when they face Real Betis in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals on Thursday.
