The Abia State Government has raised an alarm over an alleged plan by certain political actors to sponsor a protest aimed at destabilizing the state.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, the government said intelligence reports indicate that some individuals are mobilising miscreants from Aba and neighbouring states to stage a protest tagged “Tinubu Dey Work, Otti Dey Chop.”
The government described the planned protest as an attempt to promote a “false narrative” that the Federal Government funded projects currently being executed by the state government.
Ekeoma reiterated that it had earlier clarified that federal refunds for such projects had been discontinued.
The statement read, “The alleged plot is designed to trigger confrontation between the protesters and security operatives, particularly the State Task Force in Aba, which could escalate into violence, loss of lives, and a breakdown of law and order.
“The government warns that such actions may be part of efforts to create instability in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“While we reaffirm our commitment to democratic principles and tolerance of opposition, we will take decisive action against any individual or group found attempting to endanger public safety under the guise of political expression”.
The government also urged parents and guardians to advise their children and wards against participating in any politically motivated protests that could jeopardize their safety.
It assured residents that it remains committed to maintaining peace, security, and an open political environment where individuals can freely pursue their political ambitions without fear or intimidation.
