A suspected trigger-happy Nigerian soldier, Coporal Ajayi Johnson was on Wednesday, arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court 1 presided over by Linda Ugboaja.
Ajayi was brought to court in charge No U/587C/2019 even as Micheal O. stood in for DSP Olukoya Adeyemi, the OC Legal for the Prosecution.
No counsel appeared for the accused (Ajayi). C Adiele Esq held brief alongside U. Amaraizu Esq, for the norminal complainant.
The Prosecutor, relying on Sec 100(1)b of the Abia State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, prayed the Court to rely on the same to make the necessary order.
The court, however, declined jurisdiction and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
It also asked the Police to transfer the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
The matter was adjourned to September 16 for report of compliance.
DAILY POST recalls that the police command in Abia State had confirmed the alleged killing of a commercial motorcyclist, also called “okada rider” at Umuokereke Ngwa community near Aba.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna told newsmen that relatives of the deceased, known as Chimaobi Nwogu, reported the incident at the Eastern Ngwa Police Division.
Ogbonna said that investigation into the incidence had commenced to unravel the actual killers.
Nwogu was allegedly shot to death for allegedly refusing to part with N100 bribe at a military checkpoint at Ohanze in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia.
But Ogbonna said that the army had denied responsibility.
