AbdulRazaq, PDP disagree on achievements

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State

Kwara State Government and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are trading words over Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s second year performance.

PDP scored the governor’s performance in the last two years as very low.

The state Chairman, Kola Shittu, described AbdulRazaq’s “two years in office as woeful”, saying he had failed to fulfil several of the promises he and his party made to Kwarans during the 2019 electioneering.

PDP said the administration has also failed to meet the expectations of the people, noting that Kwarans’ disillusionment with the AbdulRazaq government is rife.

But the administration disagreed, insisting that  AbdulRazaq has achieved a lot in the last two years.

It said it “welcomes constructive criticism that will enhance our efforts in jointly uplifting Kwarans and giving them democratic dividends.”

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Communication, Alhaji Bashir Adigun, said in a statement: “It is ridiculous that a party that was sacked in an overwhelming landslide election in Kwara State in the 2019 general election will have the temerity to give an assessment of a governor that has been rated the best in the history of the state.

“PDP has forgotten how its campaign trains were booed and stoned in many communities for its failed promises and for subjecting the people to misery, abject poverty, disorienting human condition and loss of dignity.

”For the record, this administration has not owed any public servant a dime since its assumption of office, in contrast to the PDP government, which left civil servants very poor, in debt and in tears and sorrow.

“The despair, pain and penury the PDP subjected our retired public servants and pensioners to are still fresh in our memories. They are condemnable.

“Against all odds, and to the bewilderment of the discredited Kwara PDP, our good governor, AbdulRazaq, has paid about N20 billion in pension and gratuity in the last two years despite the dwindling revenue of the government. This is a demonstration of His Excellency’s  compassionate bid to ensure that pensioners live happily and enjoy a peaceful retirement.

“Kwarans have not forgotten how the PDP administration failed to pay the counterpart funds of the Universal Basic Education Commission, National Primary Health Care Development Agency and other development agencies. This deliberate reckless act by the PDP government of inglorious past denied the state of good schools, infrastructure and health facilities.

“The recent discovery of the massive looting and conversion  of our commonwealth  by identified officials of the last administration is an indicator of their greed, lack of appropriate character, fitness and patriotism for trusted public positions.

”We restate that those found culpable in the report of the committee on the illegal acquisition of government property will not go unpunished.”
