Nigerian football fans have taken to social media to applaud Ademola Lookman's recent move to Atletico Madrid in the Spanish La Liga.

After nearly four seasons in Bergamo, the 28-year-old joined Atlético Madrid on a permanent deal worth €40 million on transfer deadline day.

The former African Footballer of the Year penned a four-and-a-half-year contract with Diego Simeone’s side.

Lookman joined Atalanta in the summer of 2022 from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig after a loan spell at Leicester City in the Premier League.

The Nigerian international played his best football under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, guiding La Dea to their first-ever European trophy in his second season. He netted a historic hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final.

Lookman was subsequently crowned African Footballer of the Year in December 2024.
