The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has asked the federal government to abandon its use of lethal force to silence critics in favor of dialogue and the application of justice and fairness.

Barrister Tex Okechukwu, the APGA's National Publicity Secretary, made the request on Sunday in Abuja as part of celebrations commemorating the party's present leadership, Dr. Victor Ike Oye's, six years in office.

According to him, the administration must do all humanly possible to restore people's faith in the government by eliminating activities that could cause socio-political unrest across the country.

“Brutal force should be replaced with discourse and recourse to justice and fairness to silence opposition voices,” Okechukwu stated.

He reminded that the current APGA leadership, led by Ozonkpu Victor Ike Oye, was elected at the National Convention held at the Prof. Dora Akunyili International Conference Centre in Awka exactly six years ago.

The leadership of APGA's Board of Trustees was installed at the same time.

“It's been six years of ups and downs,” he remarked. Despite the evident difficulties, we managed to keep our heads above water. During the time period under consideration, we also achieved outstanding outcomes.

“Electoral victories were recorded in Bayelsa, Taraba, Benue, Kaduna, Niger, Abia, Imo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory. The most significant of these triumphs was the retention of the governorship seat in Anambra State in 2017 with a vote of 21 to 21.”

He also stated that the party has acquired a brand-new national office in Abuja, which sits on 4000 square meters of ground, and that work on a new building in Awka, which will serve as the party's headquarters in Anambra State, the party's birthplace, is doing well.

He went on to say, "It is our ambition to utilize the Anambra model to replicate it in other states of the federation."

He stated that the party has postponed all events to honor the day due to the mood of the country, particularly the heightened insecurity in the southeast of Nigeria.

In its stead, Okechukwu claimed, the party chose prayers and charitable giving to the destitute and needy.

“Our country is going through some of the most difficult moments in its history as a sovereign nation. As a result, all Nigerians are urged to reflect and pray earnestly.

We urge the federal government to seize the bull by the horns and return the country to normalcy,” Okechukwu stated.

He also stated that the upcoming governorship election in Anambra State, set for November 6, will be a test of the party's tenacity and inseparability as a united people.
