Labour Party National Legal Adviser Kehinde Edun has said that factional leader, Lamidi Apapa and his team are being funded to sabotage the party.

He claims the All Progressives Congress APC, paid Lamidi Apapa and his cohort to scuttle the party as he has began signing letters to the tribunal to withdraw election petition cases.

He said this in the interview with Channels Television on the internal crisis rocking the party.

On Friday, May 12, the factional leadership of the Labour Party under its Acting chairman, Lamidi Apapa, gave lawyers who were representing the party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, at the Presidential Election Tribunal 48 hours’ ultimatum to report to him.

Apapa said this while addressing the press after he was allegedly reinstated as the party acting chairman in Abuja.

Disappointed by the ongoing leadership crisis in the Labour Party, Edun stated that those benefiting from the old order where a person dictates to others are comfortable with it because they are getting favours.

According to him, Lamidi Apapa and other aggrieved executives never took the party serious but after seeing what they party is doing and the buzz surrounding it, they are interested.

"There is a momentum now in Nigeria, the masses of Nigeria have taken their destiny into their own hands and they are ready to cause a change and this momentum is making some people uncomfortable. Those who are benefiting from the status quo, where people dictates to people, that old order, some people are comfortable with it because they are enjoying it.

Why they are attacking the party now was because formally they didn't take the party too serious but they are seeing what the party is doing and they now believe that let us try to scuttle this momentum.

Yes they are been paid by the political opponents of course, there are political parties who are afraid. Yes, the major ones, the APC, majorly.

All the political parties that stole votes in the last election APC and PDP in some areas, who stole the votes of Labour Party in some areas, now we are at the tribunal, and they are seeing the way we are going, they are seeing that we are going to win most of our cases at the tribunal. They have been writing to the tribunal to withdraw cases. Lamidi Apapa has signed letters to the tribunal that Labour Party is withdrawing," Edun said.
