APC crisis: I am ready for reconciliation in Zamfara, says former governor Yari

The crisis rocking the Zamfara chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) might soon be over if the political gladiators sheathe their swords and embrace peace.

Vanguard reports that the immediate past governor of the state, Abdulaziz Yari, said he is open to reconciliation with the aggrieved members of the party in the state.

Legit.ng gathered that the APC lost all the elective positions in the state to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after the Supreme Court declared all the primary elections done by Yari's faction illegal.

Speaking on Tuesday, September 8, at the national secretariat of the APC shortly after meeting with the caretaker/extraordinary national convention planning committee led by Governor Mai Mala Buni, Yari said he is ready to reconcile with aggrieved members led by Senator Kabir Marafa.

He, however, said the efforts could be problematic as many of those against him are whining and dining with the PDP-led administration in the state.

Yari added that reconciliation would need results, adding that any reconciliation that would eventually mar the prospects of the party is of no point.

"Reconciliation has many definitions. We are ready to reconcile with everyone. But the situation where you are going to reconcile with somebody who already has members in the government of the state, he has a secretary to the state government, he has commissioners, he has everyone there.

"But if everyone is ready for reconciliation, we will know what is there because we have been playing this game since 1999. We are ready for reconciliation and we are supporting the caretaker chairman for any reconciliation, ranging from Zamfara state to anywhere. We want our party to deliver,” he said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the APC in Taraba state, Ibrahim El-Sudi who led a delegation to a parley with the caretaker committee expressed optimism that the party leadership would be able to resolve the crisis in the state chapter.

He said: “The problems are in-house and the chairman has assured us that he is going to tackle these issues. El-Sudi also downplayed the absence of the former minister of women affairs, Hajia Aisha Alhassan from the party, describing her exit as having no consequence on the fortunes of the APC.

“As you can see, all the movers and shakers of APC are behind me. So, one person can not destroy or do anything to APC. After all, when she moved to another party and contested, how many votes did she get? She got 16,000 plus votes.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state said his administration would introduce a death sentence for reckless driving.

It was reported that the governor made the statement on Saturday, August 29 when reacting to a fatal accident that claimed the lives of 15 supporters of the PDP.
