APC Chieftain urges leadership to make moves on Wike after VP loss

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Joe Igbokwe has urged the ruling party to convince Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike to join the party ahead of the presidential elections in 2023.

Igbokwe, who is a keen supporter of Bola Tinubi believes Wike is a "big fish" and "great performer" who will add his quota as the APC hopes to retain the presidency in 2023.

His call comes after the Rivers State governor was ignored as the leading opposition party picked Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as the running mate to former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.

Many believe the party's decision to pick Okowa ahead of Wike will come at a cost to the party due to the influence he wields.

Igbokwe wrote on His Facebook page on Thursday, June 16: "Governor Wike is a big fish and a great performer in Nigeria at the moment. Let us beg him to join us in the APC asap. "Let our leaders move to Rivers state to perfect it."

He called on leaders of the ruling party to go to the oil-rich state to perfect the plan.
