AFCON 2025: Mozambican fans talk tough, unfazed by Super Eagles reputation

Fans of Mozambique’s national team, the Mambas, have played down fears ahead of their 1XBET Africa Cup of Nations second-round showdown with Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Fez, insisting their team has what it takes to challenge the tournament favourites.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated knockout encounter, Thomas Famz, a Mozambican supporter, said the Super Eagles’ reputation does not intimidate the Mambas.

“The Mambas are not afraid of the Super Eagles. We have what it takes to do something against them,” he said confidently.

While many observers have tipped Nigeria as favourites for the tie, some Mozambican fans believe an upset is still possible. Aliso Bakry admitted the strength of the Super Eagles but remained hopeful.

“The Super Eagles are the favourites, but we will try and pull an upset,” Bakry stated.

Others are simply looking forward to the occasion. Nami Viendi described the match as an opportunity to enjoy the spectacle of knockout football.

“I’m just here to catch fun. Whatever happens, I will be okay,” Viendi said.

Another fan, Mohammed Lasruan, acknowledged the difficulty of the fixture but stressed that Mozambique will approach the game without fear.

“It’s going to be a tough game in Fez, but the Mambas are not scared of any opposition,” Lasruan declared.

Nigeria, three-time African champions, go into the tie with strong form and attacking depth, while Mozambique will rely on belief, discipline, and the underdog spirit as they seek a place in the quarter-finals.

With confidence flowing from both camps, the Fez encounter promises to be a tense and entertaining battle in the AFCON 2025 knockout stage.
