ABU bans sagging, nose ring, multi-coloured braids, others on campus

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has banned several clothing items on campus, describing them as indecent dress that students must not wear.

The ban was issued by the ABU Code Implementation Committee, reconstituted by the Management, which revised the provisions of the ABU Dress Code applicable to both staff and students.

The management listed the items it considered indecent and offensive, describing them as unacceptable attire in public spaces and on the university campus.

It said flouting the order will be considered an act of misconduct.

ABU said, "Wearing shorts and skimpy dresses, eg, body hugs, show-me-your-chest, spaghetti wears and dresses exposing sensitive parts.

"Wearing tights, shorts and skirts that are above the knees (except for sporting purposes). Wearing tattered jeans with holes; transparent and see-through dresses."

The university also banned the wearing of multi-colour braids by females, the use of nose rings, sagging, and the inappropriate wearing of a faze cap.

ABU also banned open intimate embrace and openly sitting on each other's laps by opposite genders

The institution stated that first-time offenders will be required to appear before a dress code committee for counselling. In contrast, second-time offenders will be sent out of the classroom, library, office, clinic, and other designated areas.

Third-time offenders will appear before an Advisory Committee on Student Discipline.
