A muslim will soon be US President – Sheikh Gumi says after Mamdani’s mayoral victory

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has hailed the victory of Uganda-born Zohran Kwame Mamdani as the mayor of New York City.

The controversial cleric says the victory creates an opportunity for a Muslim to occupy the White House as president in the future.

His statement comes after Mamdani emerged as the first Muslim to be elected into the position.

He wrote: “Mamdani has made it! ICU in Washington should be ready for heart attacks! Muslims will make it to WH,” Gumi wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who had earlier gotten the endorsement of President Donald Trump.

The 34-year-old state assemblyman from Queens triggered a political earthquake when he got in New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary in June.

He pulled an upset over a former governor who was widely expected to win the party’s nomination.

President Donald Trump himself had watched the race closely.

He labeled Mamdani a “100% Communist Lunatic” and “My little communist” — monikers Mamdani has rejected.
