7 power plants shut down - Nigerian Gov’t

Minister of Power, Sale Mamman, has revealed that the current power outages been experienced in most parts of the country are as a result of the breakdown of some National Integrated Power Plants.

In a Twitter post on Thursday, April 15, 2021, the minister listed the affected power plants.

According to him, 7 power plants, namely; Sapele, Afam, Olonrunsogo, Omotosho, Ibom, Egbin, Alaoji, and Ihovbor are broken down.

Seven others having gas supply constraints include; “Geregu, Sapele, Omotosho, Gbarain, Omuku, Paras, and Alaoji,” Jebba Power Plant was shut down for annual maintenance.

However, the minister apologised for the power outages.

“I sincerely regret the recent power outages across the nation and the difficulties it has brought with it, and wish to assure my fellow Nigerians that everyone involved is working assiduously to restore the national grid to its previous historical levels and exceed that.”
